Jude Bellingham is named England men’s player of the year as fans vote for Real Madrid star over Declan Rice and Harry Kane – despite Thomas Tuchel’s ‘repulsive’ behaviour remarks

Jude Bellingham has been named England men’s senior player of the year by fans, beating Declan Rice, Harry Kane and Cole Palmer to the award.

The Real Madrid star, who failed to win the Champions League and LaLiga last season as he did during his first campaign at the Bernabeu, still impressed fans enough with his performances on the pitch, having chalked up the most votes to claim the gong.

Bellingham, 22, is now just the second player in English history to win the award while playing for a foreign club, with Bayern Munich’s Owen Hargreaves the first to pick it up back in 2006.

The 2024-25 campaign saw Bellingham contribute three goal and five assists for England, as the Three Lions fought to bounce back from the heartache of their 1-0 defeat by Spain in the 2024 European Championships.

His overheard kick in stoppage time against Slovakia at the tournament will no doubt have remained in the minds of fans, as that goal kept England’s hopes alive and led to them reaching the final under Gareth Southgate in Germany.

The central midfielder was honoured with the award ahead of Arsenal star Rice in second and England captain Kane in third.

Rice continued to play a pivotal role for England in the engine room and upped his goals and assists record from the previous campaign, scoring twice and assisting four times.

Meanwhile, Kane during 10 goals for England during the 2024-25 season.

Fortunately for Bellingham, fans generally chose to ignore the awkward comments Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel made about the Real Madrid star last season.

The German coach admitted that his own mother finds Bellingham’s behaviour ‘repulsive’ during a live interview, sparking shockwaves through the Three Lions camp and fanbase.

Tuchel, who has more recently waxed lyrical about Bellingham’s talents, apologised for the remark shortly after the interview.

The midfielder was absent during England’s most impressive victory of the Tuchel reign last month, when the Three Lions cruised past Serbia with a confident 5-0 win away from home.

Bellingham, who now has three major tournaments with England under his belt, will hope to play a pivotal role at the World Cup in the United States next summer.
