A University of Maryland college football player has been arrested for DUI after crashing into a bar in College Park.

Daniel Lee Holmes, a redshirt freshman on the team, was arrested on Wednesday morning after he allegedly crashed into the side of Looney’s Pub and tried driving away.

Police arrested and charged him, processed him, and the 19-year-old was later released.

In a statement to InsideMDSports, a spokesperson for the athletic department said ‘We are aware of an incident involving Daniel Holmes and are handling it internally.’

Holmes is a native of nearby Washington, DC and initially committed to Florida State in their class of 2024.

He was ranked the No. 2 player in DC, the 42nd best offensive lineman, and the No. 329 player in the nation.

Holmes then transferred to Maryland in the offseason and has made an appearance in the first four games of the team’s season.

So far, he’s recorded three tackles as the Terrapins have put up a 4-0 record in their opening contests.

After winning non-conference games against Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois, and Towson, the Terps beat Wisconsin on the road to begin their Big Ten Conference schedule on a strong note.

Maryland is on a bye this week and will host Washington on October 4.
