Stars from the Collingwood Football Club have been shaking off Saturday’s disappointing defeat by Brisbane by heading down to The Sporting Globe Bar and Grill in Richmond for their annual ‘Wacky Wednesday’ celebrations.

The Magpies suffered an agonising 71-100 defeat by the Lions and subsequently failed to secure a berth in Saturday’s Grand Final.

But as traditions go, the players were out to celebrate the start of the off-season on Wednesday afternoon, with Captain Darcy Moore, star ruckman Mason Cox, and key defender Isaac Quaynor all among those dressing up for the occasion.

There were some fantastic outfits on show, with Moore opting to dress up as Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland, with the 203cm skipper slicking his blonde locks back and donning a light blue City home shirt, along with a pair of black branded shorts and blue socks.

In one group photo, Moore was even seen mimicking the Norwegian striker’s ‘meditating’ celebration.

The key defender completed the outfit with a pair of adidas Predator astro turf sneakers.

It comes as Moore and his girlfriend, radio presenter Dee Salmin, turned heads at Monday night’s Brownlow Medal ceremony, with the broadcaster donning a glittering white gown, while the Pies defender sported a full-black suit with a turtle neck jumper.

But there were plenty of other funny costumes on show, with midfielder Harry Demattia dressing up as Wallabies cult hero, Nick Cummins, aka ‘The Honey Badger’.

Akin to the Wallabies flying winger, Demattia wrapped a roll of tape around his curly locks and grinned with a big smile as he carried a rugby ball into The Sporting Globe.

It seemed one big theme of this year’s celebrations was film characters.

Pies star Jordan De Goey and Beau McCreery appeared to have linked up in their costume choices, with McCreery dressing as Will Ferrell’s character Chazz Michael Michaels from the film Blades of Glory, while his team-mate dressed as his ice skating partner Jimmy McElroy, played by Jon Heder in the film.

While there has been much talk about McCreery joining up with a league rival this year, he has affirmed that Colligwood is the only place for him.

‘It’s always been Collingwood for me,’ he recently told Fox Footy.

‘I love being here and I love playing with these boys,’ he added. ‘It’d be a tough one to leave, that’s for sure.’

Perhaps, the pick of the outfits was Dan McStay’s tribute to this summer’s big internet sensation, the Ibiza Final Boss, also known as Jack Kay.

Akin to the Ibiza Final Boss, McStay wore a Nike tank top with a gold chain around his neck, along with a pair of black shorts.

He also wore a bowl cut wig and a pair of sunglasses, and had also appeared to shave his beard to mimic that of Kay.

Darcy Cameron and Lachie Sullivan also twinned their outfits, with the ruckman dressing as Dr Evil from the Austin Powers movies and his forward companion dressing as his sidekick, Mini-Me.

Jack Crisp strapped four cans of beer around his belt and dressed as Duffman from The Simpsons and walked into the venue with a mystery player who was dressed as Spiderman, and recently de-listed star Oleg Markov, who dressed as a Bunnings Warehouse worker.

The Pies have also revealed that Charlie Dean, Ash Johnson and Fin Macrae are set to be delisted at the end of the season, with the club opting not to offer them contracts for the 2026 season.

Brayden Maynard revealed the inspiration behind his outfit on social media, posting a selfie with himself and the mystery Spiderman, captioning the image ‘Call me Donna Maynard’ – his mother!

The defender sported a black wig, a black blouse as well as a pair of sunglasses and a scarf as he entered the Melbourne venue.

Towering ruckman Mason Cox also arrived in a particularly hilarious costume, with the 6ft 9in star appearing to dress as an inflatable tube man, you might see on the side of a road promoting a shop.

Isaac Quaynor dressed as Jamaican sprinting star, Yohan Blake, who won gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics in the men’s 4x100m.

The defender dressed head-to-toe in green and gold Jamaica sprinting gear, complete with a pair of spiked running shoes and a Jamaican flag draped over his shoulders.

He took to Instagram to hail Blake, publishing an image of the sprinter with the caption, ‘One of the all-timers.’

Another honourable mention goes to Jamie Elliot, who dressed up as Ben Stiller’s character in Happy Gilmore, the abusive orderly called Hal.
