San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa suffered a season-ending ACL injury during their win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, it has been revealed.

Bosa, who earned praise from Donald Trump after performing his famous dance on the field last year, got hurt when he tried to get to Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray in the first quarter, before two Arizona offensive linemen pushed him away from the passer and to the floor.

The defensive lineman quickly knew his injury was bad news after giving a thumbs-down gesture to somebody in the crowd as he walked off, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that he sustained a clean tear of his anterior cruciate ligament.

He will now undergo surgery to repair his ACL, meaning his 2025 season has ended after just three games.

It is the second time Bosa has torn his ACL over the course of his NFL career, having also done so in Week 2 of the 2020 season against the New York Jets.

The bad news comes as a major blow to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan, who told reporters on Sunday that initial tests did not show an ACL tear.

49ers star Nick Bosa suffered a season-ending ACL injury during their win over the Cardinals

‘They haven’t ruled it out,’ Shanahan admitted. ‘We’re not sure. There is concern because of how he feels.

‘They do the test and stuff on the sideline and usually they say whether he definitely did or not and they didn’t say that, but we are concerned with that. Keeping our fingers crossed for the MRI.’

It’s yet another injury nightmare for San Francisco, who were without several key contributors for Sunday’s game.

Quarterback Brock Purdy remained sidelined by a sprained left shoulder and turf toe, while receiver Jauan Jennings sat out with shoulder and ankle injuries of his own.

Tight end George Kittle has also been out since Week 1 after injuring his hamstring.
