Fans of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets celebrated a stunning victory over their rivals as they stormed the field in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets knocked off the No. 12 Clemson Tigers for their first win over them since 2014.

The game finished frantically, with a walk-off field goal securing a 24-21 victory and leading to home fans rushing onto the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium in celebration.

Staff members eased the goal posts down so that students wouldn’t break them off as a sea of white and gold covered the field. Fans still managed to get their hands

It’s Georgia Tech’s first win over their rivals in 10 years, when a then-22nd ranked Yellow Jackets team beat a 19th ranked Clemson 28-6.

Tech would go on to finish that season with an 11-3 record, ranked 8th in the country, and winning the Orange Bowl.

After taking a 13-0 lead in the second quarter, Clemson scored its first points on the doorstep of halftime to cut the score to 13-7 at the half.

In the fourth quarter, down 14-13, Georgia Tech would rush for a touchdown and then pulled out a trick play to get the two-point conversion and extended the lead to 21-14.

Clemson would rush for a touchdown to equalize with 3:26 to go, giving Tech the final possession.

After Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King rushed for a two-yard gain, the Yellow Jackets had to make a mad swap on the sidelines to get their kicking team on as the clock ran down with no timeouts remaining.

It left kicker Aidan Birr to knock through a career-long 55-yard field goal to win the game and sent fans into hysterics.

Georgia Tech is now 3-0 to open the season for the first time since 2016. Meanwhile, Clemson fell to 1-2 – the first time they’ve lost two of their first three games since 2014.

The un-ranked (for now) Yellow Jackets host Temple next week while Clemson hopes to rebound at home against Syracuse.
