  • Shattered family will be attending Coldplay show this week

A devastated Australian family have reached out to legendary band Coldplay to request a special moment during an upcoming concert.

Tye Alroe, a 39-year-old Gold Coast dad and former rugby league player for the Melbourne Storm, died in July after suffering a heart attack at a Gold Coast gym.

Alroe left behind his partner Nikki and young daughter Poppy.

Nikki and Poppy have travelled to London this week to watch Coldplay as the British band play their final show of a 10-date run at Wembley Stadium to conclude a mammoth world tour.

Nikki’s best friend, Tess Willcox, recently posted a plea to singer Chris Martin on Instagram, asking for the frontman to give Poppy a special shout-out.

‘It’s been 6 weeks since my best friend lost her fiancé suddenly,’ Tess wrote on Instagram alongside a clip of Poppy dancing to the song A Sky Full of Stars.

‘We have the flights, we have the tickets (Wembley stadium, Friday 12th, block 527).

‘Now we just need Chris to remind her that daddy is a ‘Star in the Sky’.’

Nikki told Daily Mail Australia just how important the concert was to herself and Poppy, with Coldplay being a soundtrack to their family life.

‘Tye and I saw Coldplay last year but couldn’t get three tickets to take her (Poppy), but the whole time we were saying how much she’d love it,’ she said.

‘We bought her a little merch shirt in the hopes of taking her one day – and the songs we used for Tye’s funeral were all exclusively Coldplay.

‘She’s grown up with us playing the concerts on TV most nights while I cook dinner, so it’s a very special time for us being here.’

Nikki also explained the significance of stars to the family now that Tye has passed on.

‘We told her right from the time of his passing that Daddy was a star up in the sky now,’ she said.

‘She had star stickers she passed out to everyone at the funeral and we talk to him up there each night now. Almost every other Coldplay song has lyrics about stars so it’s such a comfort.’

Alroe collapsed in a Burleigh Heads gym on July 29 after feeling unwell and was unable to be revived by emergency services.

Labelled an ‘exceptional businessman and even better bloke’ by close friend Steve Hunt, Alroe was also a highly respected figure in the Gold Coast property development industry.

‘He was a rising star and well liked by all, including builders, tradespeople and contractors,’ Hunt told News Corp.

‘The industry is devastated by the untimely passing of such a go-getter.’

Alroe was signed to the Melbourne Storm aged 19, but never progressed to NRL level.

He soon turned his attention to construction, where Alroe first worked as a carpenter and bricklayer.

He founded his Alroe Construction business in 2012 and earlier this year was described as ‘one of the Gold Coast’s leading boutique developers’ with a ‘turnover of $50million and a workbook of $185million’.
