  • Peter V’landys mocked US rapper Snoop Dogg on Today

NRL boss Peter V’landys has stirred the pot after deliberately referring to AFL as the ‘FLA’ – before labelling rapper Snoop Dogg a ‘Labradoodle.’

Speaking on Channel 9’s Today show on Wednesday, V’Landys was delighted to confirm American superstar Teddy Swims will headline the NRL Grand Final entertainment on October 5 at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

‘We saw what the FLA got, what’s he called, Labrador, or poodle… Labradoodle,’ he teased.

‘All I know is it’s a dog act, so we had to get better than that.

‘We (NRL) actually got a vocalist, none of this doof doof stuff… this bloke (Swims) can actually sing.’

It comes after the AFL recently confirmed Snoop Dogg will perform at the MCG on September 27.

While the chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission was happy to spruik Swims, many footy fans weren’t on the same page.

‘Is that Temu Post Malone?’ posted one social media user.

‘I’m sorry who?’ replied another. ‘Only Teddy I know plays fullback at the Roosters,’ said a third.

‘He’s no Snoop Dogg,’ a fourth weighed in with.

Swims, 32, had a big hit in Australia with his 2024 song Lose Control and is touring Down Under in October.

‘I am so excited to be performing at the 2025 NRL Grand Final,’ he said in a statement.

‘Australia has always been a second home to me.

‘Every time I am there I am overwhelmed by how welcoming the people are, I fall more in love with the culture, and just everything about it.

‘So, to be welcomed to perform one of the biggest nights in Australia is a huge honour.’

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo labelled Swims as the ‘perfect’ artist to belt out his music in front of more than 80,000 fans.

‘Teddy Swims is one of the most exciting music talents in the world, making him the perfect performer for the NRL Grand Final day,’ Abdo said.

‘Teddy’s global appeal and connection with young audiences in Australia, the US and around the world, matches our vision to grow Rugby League globally.

‘Grand Final day is a special event on the sporting calendar, capturing moments that last forever.

‘Including a fresh superstar like Teddy Swims alongside some of the best male and female athletes in the world will take the entertainment experience for sports fans to a whole new level.’
