- Blunt reaction to request from journalist Caroline Wilson
Controversial AFL identity Sam Newman is likely to come under fire after uttering a vile two-word reaction when discussing the AFL homophobia scandal involving Adelaide Crows star Izak Rankine.
Speaking on his latest You Cannot Be Serious podcast with footy great Wayne Carey, Newman was stunned after hearing journalist Caroline Wilson called for Rankine to apologise to the AFLW competition as a whole and the Adelaide Crows women’s team for his offensive on-field slur.
Rankine was banned by the AFL for four games, and is unlikely to feature in the finals this year.
Newman made his thoughts crystal clear regarding Wilson’s request, bluntly stating ‘f**k me’ when asked if he thinks Rankine should apologise.
Carey also raised eyebrows after suggesting Rankine ‘should email anyone in the world who is gay’ to say sorry following his offensive slur.
It comes as Newman and Carey confirmed they are hosting an event on AFL Grand Final day on September 27.

Newman and Carey also confirmed they are hosting an event on AFL Grand Final day on September 27, with tickets an eye-watering $2500 each
Tickets won’t come cheap for the yet-to-be-confirmed venue in Port Melbourne, with footy fans asked to fork out $2500 per person.
As Newman kindly pointed out, those with deep pockets who attend will be gifted signed North Melbourne and Geelong attire from Carey and Newman respectively – but only 20 jerseys from each former player – as well as food and drinks.
It comes after Newman was recently barred from a pending footy speaking engagement at a leading university.
The former Footy Show favourite was informed he ‘didn’t align with the values of the people who own the venue’ before his planned appearance at the Founders Theatre, which is part of the Mt Helen campus of Federation University in regional Victoria.
The ex-Geelong star was due to appear with AFL legend Sam Kekovich.
‘It is a bit bemusing that a university who would pride itself I reckon on free speech deems that I’m not suitable,’ Newman told News Corp.
‘I never speak about anything to do with the Welcome to Country or any politics.
‘I speak about the way I played football and I speak about my media career and I’m very good at doing it.’
In June, Newman courted controversy after labelling the AFLW competition a ‘lesbian league’.
He also mixed up the letters in the acronym AFLW, appearing to deliberately name the women’s football league the ‘AWFL’.
Newman went onto use the word ‘awful’ on multiple occasions.
