Gerwyn Price has issued a concerning health update after posting a picture in hospital having been forced to withdraw from the PDC Players Championship.

Price, 40, was one of the favourites for the PDC title having already won the Poland Darts Masters and the Baltic Sea Darts Open so far this season.

Surprisingly, the Welshman was not in the ballot for the Players Championship draw  on Monday.

Jeffrey de Graaf won the first final on Monday before Stephen Bunting’s victory on Tuesday earnt him £15,000.

Price then went on to post a health update showing himself in hospital – with his right right hand appearing extremely red and swollen.

He captioned the post: ‘Just what I didn’t want, back to the hospital it is.’

The 40-year-old then took a picture of himself sitting with a drip in his arm, commenting: ‘Not a bed in sight.’

Worryingly for Price, it is not the first time he has injured his hand.

In 2022, he was forced to withdraw from a Premier League night after suffering a fracture in the same hand.

However, he did not confirm if this injury was of a similar nature, nor how long it could keep him out of action for.

As a result, it remains to be seen if he will make a comeback at the numerous tournaments occurring in the upcoming weeks.

The World Series Finals, Czech Darts Open and Flanders Darts Trophy will all take place before the end of September – leaving Price in a race to recover should he want to feature in them.
