Pep Guardiola makes major axeing call on No 1 goalkeeper at Man City as James Trafford and Ederson battle it out – as Gianluigi Donnarumma waves emotional goodbye to PSG

Pep Guardiola appears to have made a decision on his goalkeeper pecking order at Manchester City.

James Trafford starts Saturday’s game against Tottenham – his second Premier League start in a row – seemingly sealing his place as No 1 ahead of Ederson.

Trafford kept a clean sheet in his first start for City in a convincing 4-0 win against Wolves last week, and his efforts were clearly enough for Guardiola to favour him again.

Ederson, who has made 372 appearances for City, has been a cornerstone of Guardiola’s side for the past eight seasons.

But with less than one year remaining on the Brazilian’s contract, he has been strongly linked with a move away – and today’s decision may have marked the beginning of the end for him in Manchester.

Ederson missed last weekend’s match against Wolves, officially due to illness, but City are now open to letting him leave with Galatasaray pushing to sign him.

Ederson has kept 168 clean sheets for City since joining for £35million from Benfica in 2017.

He has won 15 trophies at the club – including a Champions League and six Premier League titles – as well as three Premier League Golden Glove awards.

Elsewhere, City are still reportedly weighing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who waved goodbye to fans last at the Parc des Princes last night.
