Graham Potter makes honest admission about his West Ham future as ‘fuming’ captain Jarrod Bowen reveals where it all went wrong after 5-1 thrashing by Chelsea

Graham Potter admits he’s feeling the pressure after West Ham suffered a second thumping defeat of the season to leave them bottom of the Premier League.

The Hammers were dispatched 5-1 by a rampant Chelsea side at the London Stadium that did not even need the services of Cole Palmer, who pulled up injured in the warm-up.

West Ham conceded all their goals from crosses or corners and were booed down the tunnel while furious supporters clashed with stewards after a child ran on to the pitch.

‘You are under pressure all the time in these jobs, in this situation, that is how it is,’ said Potter. ‘I know the territory, I know what comes with poor results and I accept that responsibility.

‘It was too easy to score against us so I take my responsibility and I have to do better. That is the case with all the players. They are honest and want to do more than they are at the moment.

‘I don’t want to say it’s a lack of fight, I know the players care and are desperate to do well. I know they want to do better than we are. Sometimes in football and life you hit a patch and no doubt about it has been a tough week. We have had a smash on the nose.’

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen said he was ‘fuming’ with his side’s performance. ‘[I’m feeling] all the emotions that come with being on the back of conceding eight goals in two games and not picking up a point,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘We have to look at ourselves. The manager has come in but it’s the players are on the pitch he can’t influence it. We are not doing basic football well enough, I can tell you that because we’ve conceded eight goals in two games.’

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca revealed that Palmer would be assessed after feeling a recurrence of a niggling groin injury.

‘Cole was not 100 per cent in last four or five days. He tried to warm up but felt something so we preferred not to take a risk for it to get worse and we will see if it is something important or not.

‘It was already the Palace game not 100 per cent but he has tried to make big effort because he is really keen about the team. Tonight he tried again, but he was not very good.’
