The Yankees-Red Sox game was paused on Friday night after a squirrel somehow made its way onto the field.

With the game tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the animal made its way to the third baseline as Jhostynxon Garcia stood at the plate.

But with the batter facing a full count, the game stopped for about a minute as the squirrel scampered around the field at Yankee Stadium.

At one point, it made its way to the mound before bolting in the other direction, as broadcaster Michael Kay made light of the situation.

‘He’s at the 30, he’s at the 20!’ he exclaimed, pretending that the squirrel was a football star heading to the endzone.

‘Good luck catching that thing in the open field, I don’t like your chances,’ one of Kay’s colleagues in the booth added.

The squirrel continued idling on the field for several more moments before ultimately making its way behind home plate and allowing play to resume.

Garcia ultimately held his nerve after the delay and earned a walk on the next pitch.

The Yankees fell to their rivals 1-0  on Friday as they continue jostling for positioning in the AL wild card race, after the Red Sox also won 6-3 the night before.

Boston (70-59) is now atop the AL’s three wild card spots, with the Yankees half a game behind.

The Yankees will also face Boston on Saturday and Sunday before hosting the Nationals in a three-game series.
