  • Roosters fullback became a father for the second time
  • Marlie Grace Tedesco was born on August 18
  • Roosters hit purple patch of form ahead of NRL finals

NRL star James Tedesco is likely to have a spring in his step on Saturday night after the birth of his second child this week.

The Roosters fullback, 32, and his wife Maria announced the arrival of Marlie Grace on Saturday, after she was born on August 18.

‘Our hearts have grown once again and she has one proud big sis!,’ they both posted on Instagram with two accompanying pictures of their bundle of joy.

It is the couple’s second daughter, after Rosie Mae Tedesco was born in September 2023.

Tedesco will now turn his attention to Saturday night’s vital clash against Parramatta at CommBank Stadium.

The Tricolours are flying with the finals looming, and know two points are vital if they are to be a genuine premiership threat.

Trent Robinson’s men appear to be jostling for a spot in the top eight with the Dolphins, who face the Sea Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Brookvale Oval on Sydney’s northern beaches.

With tough fixtures against Melbourne and arch-rivals the Rabbitohs to round out the home and away season, Robinson all week would have drummed home the importance of beating the Eels.

The three-time premiership-winning coach has handed Junior Tupou a debut following his mid-season switch from the Dolphins, replacing concussed winger Daniel Tupou.

‘We know the Eels game is only thing that really matters in the course of our season,’ Robinson told reporters this week.

‘It’s ‘burn the boats and let’s go’. That’s the beauty of what we get to do and the simplicity of it as well.’

Robinson also sidestepped talk Daly Cherry-Evans will join the club in 2026.

Cherry-Evans will become the third player in NRL history to play 350 games for the one club, having become synonymous with the Manly Sea Eagles since his premiership-winning 2011 rookie season.

The 36-year-old alarming drop in form has added to uncertainty over a Roosters move, especially given the red-hot chemistry between current halves Sam Walker and Hugo Savala.

Asked if he thought Cherry-Evans should retire at season’s end, Robinson said: ‘No, I just think this weekend, it’s a big congratulations to him.

‘They (Walker and Savala) are our starting halves, that’s all I’m focused on.’
