Liverpool Champions League winner set to ‘rip up contract’ after spending entire season in the RESERVES

A former Kop favourite is reportedly set to rip up his contract at his new club after spending an entire season banished to the reserves.

Divock Origi left Liverpool as a hero in 2022 but he has been unable to win over the AC Milan management.

The striker, 30, has not played for the Italian giants since 2023 and reportedly refused to play for their youth team, Milan Futuro, after being banished from the first team.

Origi scored two goals in his first season at the San Siro, bagged one goal on loan at Nottingham Forest in 2023-24, and learned in July last year that he was nowhere near the first-team picture in Italy.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Origi and Milan will soon terminate his deal with a year to go, with the Belgian set to earn half his annual salary in severance pay.

The Italian outlet claims that he has not even been turning up to play with Milan Futuro, the youth team, in a sign of how severely relations have soured.

Origi has instead been training alone with a fitness coach away from the club’s Milanello training ground.

He was a much-loved cult hero at Liverpool, remembered for his brace against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, the final goal against Tottenham, and his knack of scoring against Everton.

And there were high hopes when he joined Milan in 2022 on a free transfer.

Milan legend and former director Paolo Maldini claimed he could be a ‘great footballer’ and the club brought him in on the second-highest wage behind Rafael Leao.

But a return of two goals in his first season saw him deemed surplus to requirements after his first year – with Maldini out the door and unable to defend him – and he has not played for them since.

He is determined to make a comeback, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, but as of yet it is unclear where his landing spot could be.

The Ostend-born star has never been the most prolific scorer – he netted 41 times in 175 appearances for Liverpool, and his biggest haul for one season is 11 goals – but he remains popular on Merseyside for his ability to produce seemingly miraculous moments.

He won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup during seven seasons on the reds’ books.
