Caitlin Clark suffers ANOTHER injury with Indiana Fever star already dealing with groin problem

Caitlin Clark has suffered a fresh injury scare while continuing her recovery from a lingering groin issue that has sidelined her since mid-July.

Sources confirmed to IndyStar on Tuesday that the Indiana Fever star tweaked her right ankle during an individual workout on August 7 in Phoenix.

In the same session, teammates Sydney Colson (left ACL) and Aari McDonald (right foot) suffered season-ending injuries.

Despite the concern, team sources emphasized that the new ankle tweak is not considered a setback for Clark, who would still be unavailable due to groin injury.

‘There was no timeline or projected return to play so it’s impossible to say if it was impacted,’ a Fever spokesperson said on Wednesday.

‘So it remains the same: to give Caitlin as much time needed to ensure she comes back fully healthy, which every day she is working hard to do.’

Clark has already been sidelined for the Indiana Fever with a groin injury since mid-July

Clark has not yet returned to full team practice and no official timetable has been provided for her comeback.

This is not Clark’s first ankle issue. She rolled her right ankle on May 21, 2024, in a game against the Connecticut Sun and was briefly helped to the locker room.

Another scare came in August when she turned the same ankle in a game against the Atlanta Dream. Though she appeared in pain, she returned later with no visible limp.

‘Every basketball player has an ankle injury,’ Clark said after that game. ‘If you don’t, you’re not a true baller. It’ll be stiff, but I’ll be good.’

Clark, one of the WNBA’s biggest stars and most marketable names, has been sidelined since mid-July due to a right groin injury.

While the Fever continue to monitor her closely, the team has made it clear that her long-term health is the priority.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Sophie Cunningham will miss the remainder of the season for the Indiana Fever after suffering a knee injury on Sunday night.

The Fever announced the news on Tuesday, saying Cunningham is expected to make a full recovery. A specific injury was not revealed in the team statement.

The injury took place in the second quarter of Indiana’s overtime win, when Cunningham dropped to the court while clutching her right knee.

She would be helped off the court with a towel over her head as she made her way into the locker room.

Unfortunately for the upstart Fever, Cunningham’s season-ending injury comes as the team is without star point guard Caitlin Clark , who continues to battle a groin issue. Despite this, the 19-16 Fever are in the thick of the playoff hunt under first-year coach Stephanie White.

Cunningham became an important role player for the Fever after coming over from the Phoenix Mercury. She finished the season averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds a game, while making 47 percent from the field and 43 percent behind the arc — both career highs.
