Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner set for US Open mixed doubles

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are playing in the Cincinnati Open final on Monday afternoon, local time.

But they are both also scheduled to take place in the new-look US Open mixed doubles tournament, starting in New York on Tuesday.

Alcaraz is scheduled to play with Emma Raducanu while Sinner is partnered with doubles specialist Katerina Siniakova.

Will they make it to New York on time after playing each other in Cincy? We’ll just have to wait and see…

“It’s going to be a very, very difficult match, but hopefully it’s going to be, in any case, a good match.

Carlos Alcaraz looks ahead to Cincinnati Open final: ‘Excited about it’

“I’m excited about it. It’s going to be great. He won the last one, I won the first two finals, so I think it’s going to be really interesting. It’s the first final [between us this year] on a hard court, so I’m excited about taking that challenge.

“I know that Jannik, without a doubt, is the best player in the world on hard courts and probably on every surface right now, so it’s going to be a great match and I have to be ready for that.”

Jannik Sinner’s route to Cincinnati Open final

Jannik Sinner has yet to drop a set on his way to returning to the Cincinnati Open final.

He celebrated his birthday by beating French qualifier Terence Atmane in the semi-finals. Atmane had been one of the stories of the tournament until that point, beating Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune to reach the final four.

Sinner also defeated Felix Auger-Alliasime in the quarter-finals.

Carlos Alcaraz has upper hand in rivalry against Jannik Sinner

Although Jannik Sinner was victorious in the Wimbledon final last month, beating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets, it is the Spaniard who still holds the upper hand in their recent matches.

Alcaraz leads 8-5 in their head-to-head, having won their meetings at the Italian Open final and French Open final earlier this season.

This evening’s clash in Cincinnati is the fifth final in a row that Alcaraz and Sinner have played, having gone their first nine matches without competing for the title.

Welcome along

Good evening. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner meet again in another final, this time at the Cincinnati Open, as both players continue to build up to this month’s US Open.

Alcaraz and Sinner have contested the last two grand slam finals, with Alcaraz winning a five-set classic at the French Open final and Sinner getting his revenge in the Wimbledon final.

World No 1 Sinner is on a run of 26 consecutive wins on hard-court surfaces and snapped his losing run against Alcaraz by winning the Wimbledon final in four sets last month.

World No 2 Alcaraz still enjoys a 8-5 winning record against Sinner, and the Spaniard will have his eye on a statement win ahead of Flushing Meadows where the Italian is the defending champion.
