Ryan Reynolds has admitted he was taken aback when he came face-to-face with Wrexham’s record signing Nathan Broadhead.

Earlier this week, Broadhead penned a four-year deal to return to the club where he began his career as an academy player, joining from Ipswich.

Wrexham are understood to have paid a club-record fee, with an initial £7.5million and a further £2.5m in add-ons.

And when the Hollywood star finally met the forward in person, he confessed he didn’t even recognise him at first.

‘Obviously those things are in the works a little longer than the public view might have,’ Reynolds told ITV ahead of Wrexham’s clash with West Brom.

‘I had an incredibly awkward moment with him in the dressing room because in person, he just looks so young and I’ve seen him play tons, I’ve watched him.

‘I didn’t commit. I was like “hey, hi!” I was like “that can’t be Nathan Broadhead. It can’t be, he’s too young”. But he’s 27 and he’s a machine.

‘So I had that, but now it’s sunk in. I managed to get my entire leg in my mouth. Now it’s sunk in.’

Broadhead started on the bench against West Brom was forced into action earlier than expected, replacing the injured Josh Windass during the first half against West Brom.

The Baggies inflicted a second defeat of the season on Wrexham, claiming a 3-2 win at the Racecourse Ground.

The arrival of Broadhead came after Wrexham had already added Premier League experience in Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Danny Ward, and Lewis O’Brien, who was their previous record signing.

The Red Dragons will seek to pick up their first Championship win of the season when they host Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.
