Dave Portnoy mocked for ‘wild’ take on first college football rankings of the season

Barstool boss Dave Portnoy has been thoroughly mocked on social media for his ‘wild’ pro-Michigan take on the first college football rankings of the season.

The Wolverines were ranked No 14 in the nation in the Associated Press poll, a great mark for most teams.

Portnoy took issue with being 11 spots behind Ohio State and six in back of Alabama, with Michigan defeated both teams last season.

‘How many years in a row does Michigan have to drub Ohio and Bama before we’re ranked ahead of them?’ Portnoy wrote on X.

Even with Portnoy’s facts, Alabama brings in one of the most talented recruiting classes in the country to an already deep team and Ohio State won the national championship.

The context of judging results other than when schools play Michigan led Portnoy to being roasted online.

‘Wild that this guy is now a national college football “analyst,”‘ said one college football fan, speaking on Portnoy being hired by Fox Sports for its Saturday studio shows.

‘Who won the Natty last year?’ a second fan added.

‘Pretty much only when you are cheating… But hey whose counting?’ a third said, with a jab about Michigan’s 2023 national title coming under massive controversy.

‘What’s a 7-5 team usually ranked?’ a fourth stated.

‘Illinois spanked Michigan so are you saying Illinois should be ahead of OSU and Bama as well?’ a fifth continued, with a mention of the No 12 Illini.

‘I think winning a championship once every 25 years is probably hurting your overall optics. Your football team is basically a smarter Oklahoma,’ a sixth concluded.

Texas was unsurprisingly named the top team in the poll with plenty of hype surrounding Arch Manning’s first full season as the Longhorns’ starter.

Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia round out the top five, with Notre Dame and Oregon right behind.

Arizona, Illinois, and South Carolina hold the three spots right in front of Michigan.

The Wolverines’ Week 2 opponent, Oklahoma, is ranked No 18 in the poll, while they lost to Indiana last season, who comes in at No 20.
