Ideal, which first aired in 2005, told the story of drug dealer Moz, played by Johnny Vegas

The comedian and actor Johnny Vegas will be joined by original cast members when he takes the lead role in a stage adaptation of the comedy Ideal.

The programme about a small-time drug dealer in Salford first aired in 2005 and drew a cult fanbase along with critical acclaim.

A stage adaptation of the comedy, which ran for seven series, will feature other original cast members and premier at The Lowry theatre in the city on 8 September before touring the country.

Vegas, who plays dope dealer Moz, recently told Radio Manchester that fans “come up and they’ll still quote the show to me”.

Vegas added: “It is lovely to have that job you can’t wait to get back to.”

Ideal’s writer Graham Duff will also appear as Brian, one of Moz’s oldest friends, alongside Ben Crompton, Joanna Neary, Ryan Pope and Emma Fryer.
