The Civil Nuclear Police Authority (CNPA) has welcomed two new independent members to its Board.

Chair Susan Johnson announced the appointments of John Campbell, QPM, and Nick Payne, both of whom bring valuable public service and governance experience to the Authority. Both will attend their first meeting on Wednesday 30 July.

John brings a wealth of experience from a distinguished 34-year career in policing. As the former Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, John has held strategic command during numerous high-profile and complex operations, including royal and state events, major sporting and cultural gatherings, and protective operations such as the Olympic Games and Reading Festival. His extensive involvement in national counter-terrorism efforts and crisis management will be a valuable asset to the CNPA.

Nick joins with over 30 years of expertise in senior finance, commercial, and operational leadership across government, policing, and the private sector. A qualified accountant, Nick has held key roles including Chief Operating Officer for the Northern Ireland Office and Director of Commercial Scrutiny and Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Defence. He has also served on the External Governance Board of the National Cyber Security Centre, adding further depth to his governance credentials.

Welcoming them to the Board, Susan said “John and Nick bring a wealth of complementary knowledge and experience that will add considerable value to the work of the Authority and the Constabulary.

“They join the Authority at a challenging but exciting time, and I am sure they will provide constructive guidance and scrutiny to the delivery of our forward strategy. John and Nick, along with all the Authority members, are ambitious for CNC’s future contribution to energy security and the protection of critical national infrastructure. I am grateful to them for putting themselves forward for these important governance roles.”
