Sarina Wiegman has revealed that England could be without one of their key players for Tuesday’s Euro 2025 semi-final due to injury.

The Lionesses overcame Sweden on Thursday evening to book their place in the final four but the victory proved far from straightforward.

Kosovare Asllani fired her side into the lead after just two minutes at the Letzigrund before Stina Blackstenius added a second for Peter Gerhardsson’s side.

England appeared to be on the brink of an exit before goals from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang put the Lionesses back on level terms and forced the game into extra time.

With neither side able to seize the initiative in the additional 30 minutes, a penalty shootout decided England’s fate.

In a chaotic shootout that saw both team’s net just two of their first six penalties, the Lionesses ultimately emerged victorious to set up a semi-final showdown with Italy on Tuesday.

However, Wiegman’s side may be without their talismanic captain, Leah Williamson for the clash.

Williamson appeared to land awkwardly following a Sweden corner during injury-time and was subsequently substituted despite attempting to play on.

Speaking following the game Wiegman revealed that Williamson had suffered an ankle injury and will be assessed imminently.

‘She rolled her ankle. She’ll be assessed tomorrow,’ Wiegman said.

‘I don’t know what it is right now. She couldn’t stay on the pitch so we had to take her off.’

Following the game the Arsenal centre back admitted she wasn’t sure on the severity of her injury.

‘It wasn’t about me [tonight] and a game like that requires you to be at 100 per cent,’ Williamson told BBC One.

‘It wasn’t the time to stay on the pitch, but I don’t know.’
