Chelsea are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to reports.

The Italian shot-stopper enjoyed the most successful season of his career in 2024-25, registering 12 clean sheets as PSG marched to an imperious treble-winning campaign.

Donnarumma’s fine form has continued into the Club World Cup, where he has kept five clean sheets so far, conceding just once.

On Sunday, the 26-year-old will have another chance to impress Chelsea’s hierarchy as PSG face the west London club in the final of the competition.

But any formal decision on a deal will have to wait until after the Club World Cup, according to L’Equipe.

From the player’s side, Donnarumma has publicly stated his desire to stay at PSG, despite multiple European clubs circling.

However, certain conditions will have to be met as the superstar keeper is aware of his value.

Donnarumma is widely considered the frontrunner to win the Yashin Trophy for a second time – an award handed out to the best-performing goalkeeper in the world.

It has not yet been disclosed what fee PSG would demand for Donnarumma, but it would not be surprising if Chelsea were forced to break the bank for him.

Kepa Arrizabalaga remains the most expensive goalkeeper ever, and it was the Blues who signed him from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for £71.6m.

Donnarumma’s deal expires in the summer of 2026, but he has made it clear that he wants to stay in Paris.

‘My priority is to stay at PSG and sign a new deal,’ he said last month. ‘I don’t think there will be any problems in the negotiations.’

Chelsea were forced to pivot their interest from AC Milan’s Mike Maignan after they refused to meet the Serie A club’s £20million asking price.

The club currently have four goalkeepers on their books but none have fully convinced fans.

Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders are all currently contracted at Stamford Bridge, but they have not persuaded the Chelsea hierarchy against looking for another keeper this window.

However, following a breakdown in negotiations for Maignan, the Blues reportedly maintain ‘full trust’ in Petrovic, Sanchez, Jorgensen and Penders.
