NFL star still ‘not happy’ with new contract talks as he weighs up whether to boycott training camp

The beginning of NFL summer training camps is right around the corner and much like other years, the threat of star players holding out for bigger contracts looms large.

One of those players not happy with his current deal is Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

The Penn State product is in the last year of his current deal, which pays him a base salary of $15.5million.

But with talent at his level currently earning deals in the range of $40m and up, McLaurin is right to be asking for a pay raise.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, McLaurin is ‘not happy with where things are with an extension.’

Fowler didn’t touch on a potential holdout for the star, however, McLaurin didn’t show up the team’s whole offseason program.

Now, with training camp ahead, it’s not the wildest guess to think that he could hold out once again.

There is some incentive for the Commanders to get a deal done soon: a new contract would likely drop his cap hit of $25.5m in 2025.

McLaurin, who turns 30 in the middle of Week 2 of the season, is likely about to earn the largest contract of his career. It’ll also likely be the last time he’s paid that handsomely.

In 2024, McLaurin finished with 82 catches for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns in the regular season – his fifth straight with over 1,000 yards receiving.

Over three playoff games, McLaurin hauled in 14 catches for 227 yards and three touchdowns as the Commanders made a miracle run to the playoffs.
