The Lionesses are off to a losing start in their European Championship defence after they fell 2-1 to France.
Sarina Wiegman’s women were stunned by two goals in quick succession in the first half by Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Sandy Baltimore before Keira Walsh’s late strike gave them hope.
England were vexed after Alessia Russo’s opener was ruled out by VAR for a Beth Mead offside in the build-up, though it was the right decision.
The Lionesses pushed hard in the late stages, with Russo hitting the top of the netting with a speculative long-range effort, but France were good value for their victory.
Both sides had endured turbulent build-ups to this one but the Lionesses must pick themselves up for fixtures against the Netherlands and Wales.
