Security at Sydney’s Accor Stadium have studied video footage in a bid to identify the person responsible after a Bulldogs fan reportedly hurled a bottle at the Broncos bench during their dramatic victory on Friday night.

Canterbury looked to have secured the win after leading 18-0, only for polarising star Ezra Mam to inspire the away side to a remarkable victory.

Mam – who was booed every time he touched the ball following his drug-driving saga last year – had the last laugh as he finished with three try assists in the 22-18 triumph.

‘He is a wonderful player,’ teammate Billy Walters said of Mam.

‘We have obviously been a much better team since he has come back (from suspension).

‘It shows his character. He cops it everywhere he goes, (from rival supporters) but he doesn’t let it worry him.

‘If anything, it makes him play better and he became superhuman in that second half and really dragged us over the finish line.’

Speaking post-game, Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo knew it was a missed opportunity from his team.

‘I thought we were trying to force things,’ he said. ‘I (also) don’t think our attack’s reached its potential all year.

‘We just had to keep asking good questions, be patient and play the field position game, but we didn’t.

‘(In the end) that probably played into their hands.’

Meanwhile, Bulldogs hooker Reed Mahoney will leave Belmore at the end of the season after signing a three-year deal with the North Queensland Cowboys.

Bailey Hayward is tipped to play at dummy-half in 2026 once Mahoney departs.

It also follows off-contract Canterbury halfback Toby Sexton linking up with Catalans Dragons in the Super League.
