A person was taken to hospital from a music festival in Kent in a “very serious” condition, an ambulance service has said.

Kent Police said it was “aware of a medical incident” at Margate Drum and Bass Festival at Dreamland in the seaside town on Saturday.

The event had been due to end at 22:45 BST but at about 18:30 organisers posted on X, saying: “Sorry guys, it was just too hot today, so we had to close early. Get home safely.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed it had taken the seriously ill person to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.

In a statement on Saturday evening, Kent Police said: “We are aware of a medical incident at Dreamland in Margate, which was hosting an event that has now closed.”

A spokesperson from Thanet District Council said on Sunday: “We were informed that an event at Dreamland was closed early due to the heat and a medical related incident.

“We await further details relating to the event.”

The festival was due to feature artists including Andy C, Wilkinson and K Motionz.

An amber heat alert is in force across most of England, meaning health services and members of the public could be affected by the heat, according to the UK Health Security Agency.

In June 2024, 17-year-old Emily Stokes died after taking MDMA at a drum and base event at the attraction.

Kent Police and Dreamland have been approached for comment.
