It’s a scheme which first started back in 2019 after previous progress to develop the allocated site in the South Shropshire village had been delayed due to significant viability challenges.
Passionate about the need for more affordable homes for local people, Shropshire Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen and Leader, Heather Kidd has been a key driving force behind a partnership approach to deliver these homes.
The partnership, which includes Shropshire Council, Housing Enabling, Shropshire Rural Housing Association and importantly Powis Estate, together with agents acting for Shropshire Rural, have been working closely together over the last six years to realise an exemplar scheme.
Built by local building company, SJ Roberts, the homes are not only affordable but they also exceed Nationally Described Space Standards with their sensitive design and use of materials.
Heather said:
“I have a huge passion to make sure that people can live in the communities they were brought up in or they can move into to live near their children.
“This scheme has been on my radar since 2019, and we’ve been working our socks off to get it delivered.
“They are beautiful homes, but more importantly, they are for local people, to keep our school and the shop open.
“We need more schemes like this, especially in our more rural communities and I’m keen to explore how we can make this happen.”
Work on the homes began in September 2024 and are due to be completed this September (2025).
