Two charged with historical child sex offences at Abergavenny centre | UK News

Two men have been charged for a series of historical sexual offences against children at a former assessment centre.

Gwent Police has been investigating report of sexual and physical abuse predominantly at the former Coed Glas Assessment Centre, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, between the 1970s and 1990s.

The men, aged 65 and 69, were arrested on 20 June and were charged with 45 offences between them.

They have both been bailed and are due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on 3 July.

The 69-year-old from Rhondda Cynon Taf has been charged with 38 offences, including three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16, and one count of attempt to indecently assault on a girl under 16.

It also includes 14 counts of indecent assault on boy under 14.

He has also been charged with 20 counts of assault, ill-treat, neglect, abandon a child, young person to cause unnecessary suffering, injury.

The 65-year-old man from Blaenau Gwent has been charged with seven counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 years.

The charges relate to 16 victims.

The centre at the time was the responsibility of the former Gwent County Council and has been closed since 1995.

Det Ch Supt Andrew Tuck of Gwent Police, urged the public to respect the judicial process and avoid online speculation on the case.
