Leroy Sane’s eye-watering Galatasaray pay packet will exceed that of every Premier League player besides Erling Haaland.

The winger will bank £10.23million per season after tax, the Turkish giants have revealed in an extraordinary statement after his free signing from Bayern Munich.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson claims this would work out as £21.3m gross per annum in the UK – or £410,000 per week.

And that outstrips other top earners such as Mohamed Salah, who banks £400,000 every seven days, and Casemiro and Virgil van Dijk on around £350,000.

Sane, 29, will be paid a basic net salary of around £7.7m per year and then £2.5m in a net loyalty bonus each season.

His contract with the the Turkish starts on July 1 and is a three-year deal, meaning he is set to earn £30.69m over the duration of his deal.

It is unusual for teams to share players’ specific salary details but Galatasaray said they were ‘respectfully announced to the public’ for one of the most significant signings in their history.

Sane was mobbed by excited fans and broadcasters on Thursday as he touched down in Istanbul to make things official.

Meanwhile, at the other side of the world, his former Bayern team-mates were training in Orlando ahead of the Club World Cup and claimed to know little of it.

‘Leroy hasn’t reported to the team,’ said Manuel Neuer. Thomas Muller added: ‘I can’t say anything about that. Firstly, I don’t know anything. And secondly, it’s no use.’

Bayern have announced that he will still be in action for them in the United States until his contract ends on June 30.

They have group stage fixtures against Auckland City, Boca Juniors, and Benfica to contend with and could play him in the last 16 if they get that far.

Sane wrote on Instagram: ‘Dear Bayern fans, after five intense years here in Munich, I’ve decided to start a new chapter in the upcoming season.

‘I’m incredibly proud to have worn the jersey of the best and biggest club in Germany for over 200 matches and will always cherish the titles we’ve won together.

‘Thank you to the club, the coaching staff, everyone behind the scenes, my teammates, and especially you, the fans, for the time we’ve shared and the memories we’ve made. I will forever be grateful for my time here.’

Sane’s immense earnings drawf anything else in the Turkish Super League, with the next highest earner, Besiktas’ Rafa Silva, reported to be on £.84m gross per year – not much over a third of the German’s money.

But this is a division which is a destination for Champions League winners, international tournament heroes, and domestic champions from Europe’s elite leagues: Mauro Icardi, Alvaro Morata, Ciro Immobile, Dries Mertens, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Edin Dzeko all call it home. Don’t forget Jose Mourinho in the dugout.

It is believed that in the 2024-25 season, as many as 107 players were on more than £1million per year in Turkey, reflecting its financial influence.

Indeed, with annual salaries across the clubs totalling £412,801,456 as per Capology, the Turkish Super League is shelling out almost as much money combined as the Portuguese and Dutch top flights put together, though it is still some way off the ‘Big Five’.

Sane’s agent Pini Zahavi reportedly held meetings with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham as per Bild, as did entertain renewal talks with Bayern, but was clearly attracted by Galatasaray’s financial offering.

He won four Bundesliga titles in five seasons with Bayern after joining from  Manchester City in a £55m deal in 2020.

Speaking on joining Galatasaray, he said: ‘The atmosphere here was always amazing. It was very, very loud. That’s why I’m happy to be back.

‘I can’t wait to play my first game in front of the fans.

‘There were many offers. But Galatasaray as a whole impressed me greatly.

‘I was very impressed by the atmosphere, by the size of the club, by how much they wanted me, by how much interest they showed in me.

‘That’s why I’m here at Galatasaray.’
