Charlie Woods has gone viral after enjoying a remarkably chaotic round at a tournament in Florida.

The 16-year-old, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, is this week competing at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort.

Woods Jr. is in serious contention for a first ever victory in an AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) tournament.

He sits in a tie for second heading into the third and final round. Woods is on nine-under-par – one shot off the lead. But the teen’s tournament began with a crazy opening round that included only three pars.

Woods, who is ranked No 606 in the AJGA rankings, hit eight birdies and an eagle but somehow carded a two-under-par 70 after also shooting five bogeys and a triple bogey.

His scorecard had soon flooded social media, prompting a number of hilarious replies from golf fans, one of whom joked: ‘Hell of a way to post 2 under!’

‘Those scores look more like a phone number than a golf scorecard,’ another said. while a third added: ‘I bet his dad would’ve approved of his course management/risk management’

One fan even compared Woods to another former prodigy who has developed a habit of carding crazy scorecards. ‘Jordan Spieth is that you???’ they wrote on X.

But Woods Jr. catapulted himself into contention in the second round, carding a tournament-best seven-under-par 65.

The 16-year-old hit another nine birdies – with just two bogeys – to put himself on nine-under-par for the tournament. He is one shot behind Luke Colton of Texas ahead of Wednesday’s final round.

This is Woods’ fifth AJGA event and his previous best finish was a tie for 25th. Earlier this month, he fell at the first hurdle in his bid to qualify for next month’s US Open.

The 16-year-old was one of 10,202 golfers who entered the 125th US Open and Woods Jr. took part in one of the regional qualifying events, teeing it up at Wellington Golf Club in Florida. But Woods’ score of three-over-par was not good enough to progress.
