  • Ruben Amorim is desperate to overhaul his Man United attack this summer
  • Matheus Cunha is a primary target and a five-year deal has already been agreed
  • LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off! Is Ruben Amorim too honest?

Manchester United will launch their summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim by signing Matheus Cunha – but have yet to trigger his £62.5million release clause at Wolves.

Cunha has agreed terms over a five-year contract with the option of an additional year, and could travel to Manchester for a medical this week once United make a formal approach to Wolves.

However, United have yet to activate the clause in Cunha’s contract which has to be paid in three instalments of £20.85m over two years.

United would like to complete a deal for the 25-year-old Brazilian by the end of May, kicking off what is expected to be a busy summer of ins and outs at Old Trafford.

Cunha is likely to be given the No.10 shirt which currently belongs to Marcus Rashford who is set to leave Old Trafford after a loan spell at Aston Villa.

Other loan players, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, will also go and Alejandro Garnacho has been told to find a new club.

Matheus Cunha will be Manchester United’s first signing of the summer, joining from Wolves

But Ruben Amorim's side are still yet to trigger Cunha's £62.5million release clause at Wolves

Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans will leave as free agents on June 30 after saying their farewells to the fans following Sunday’s final game at home to Villa.

Bruno Fernandes is still considering an offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal worth £200m over three years. United are desperate not to lose their captain but would find it hard to reject a bid in the region of £100m.

As well as signing Cunha to fill one of the two No.10 positions in his 3-4-3 system, Amorim has prioritised a striker and a midfielder.

However, he admitted on Sunday that he is limited by financial fair play rules after United missed out on a £100m Champions League windfall by losing the Europa League final to Tottenham last week.

Liam Delap remains the No.1 striker target but United face competition from a number of clubs – notably Chelsea – and will have other options.
