Firefighters have been working through the night to tackle a blaze at a large industrial unit.

The fire broke out on Adelaide Street, Bolton, just before 21:50 BST on Thursday, with eight fire engines attending along with the aerial unit, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.

Billowing smoke could be seen across the town but crews have managed to contain the large fire.

They are making “good progress” and are dampening down the area, GMFRS said.

St Helen’s Road has been closed in both directions

Dan Perager, GMFRS Duty Group Manager, said: “Our crews worked hard to contain this incident to the building affected and to bring the fire under control.

“Firefighters have worked throughout the night and we continue to make very good progress to fully extinguish the fire.”

Specialist appliances including the Aerial Unit and Scorpion and Turntable Ladder were called to the incident, he added.
