A current Everton star has confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season in a video posted on the team’s social media channels on Tuesday.

The player in a question said in the video: ‘Hi Evertonians, just wanted to share this message with you that I’m going to leave the football club at the end of the season.

‘After five wondeful years my time at Everton [has come] to an end. Everton means a lot [to] me.

‘Obviously the past five years have been hard but I will always remember my time [being] a dream to play for Everton Football Club.

‘I’m sad to leave the club but I think the time has come for a new chapter for both me and the club. I will always be grateful for what the club did for me.

‘My best memory will be the goal I scored against Bournemouth [in May 2023] to keep Everton in the Premier League.

Abdoulaye Doucoure bid an emotional farewell to the Goodison faithful in the clip, as he wished the club ‘all the best in their new stadium’.

Toffees manager David Moyes said: ‘Doucs [Doucoure] has been an influential player throughout his time at the Club, including since I returned as manager, and Evertonians will always be grateful for his dedication and crucial goals.

‘Everyone at Everton thanks Doucs for his service and wishes him all the best for the future.’

Heading into Everton’s final game of the season away to Newcastle United, Doucoure has made 165 appearances for Moyes’ side, scoring 21 goals after signing from Watford in September 2020.

The 32-year-old was offered a new contract by Everton but instead chose to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

The Mali international was visibly emotional as he left the pitch after being substituted during Everton’s 2-0 win over Southampton on Saturday in what was the final Premier League game to be held at Goodison Park.

He is the latest player to announce their departure from the blue half of Merseyside, following Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia in leaving.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane and Seamus Coleman are all out of contract this summer with their futures yet to be decided.

Doucoure added: ‘I gave everything to win the most games I could and I will just miss the place, and I wish them all the best in the new stadium.

‘I will miss the fans. I will miss the football club. I just wanted to let them know that I gave everything every single time in training, in games.

‘I was always proud to wear the shirts, always proud to play at Goodison Park.’

‘Everton will always be part of my life now. I will be forever a Blue. I will always support Everton and I hope they’re going to have a bright future.’
