American golfer Patton Kizzire has withdrawn from the 2025 PGA Championship because of injury, it emerged on Friday morning.

The 39-year-old, who is ranked No 141 in the world, shot a three-over-par 74 during Thursday’s opening round.

He then endured a nightmare start to his second round, hitting four bogeys and a double bogey in his first 10 holes, before pulling out.

It is not the first time this year that Kizzire, who turned pro in 2008, has withdrawn from an event. Back in March, after a run of six missed cuts, he pulled out of the Valspar Championship.

The 39-year-old has played in 14 tour events this year and missed the cut nine times – including at the Masters at Augusta National.

He would have needed a miracle to make the weekend at the PGA Championship – after a difficult opening 28 holes at Quail Hollow, he was nine-over-par.

Kizzire’s most recent victory on the PGA Tour came at the 2024 Procore Championship. He previously won the  2018 Sony Open in Hawaii and the 2017 OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
