A host of Premier League sides including Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United are fighting to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

The Brazilian is primed for a summer exit from the Santiago Bernabeu after reportedly deciding he doesn’t want to play for the club again, and is believed to have refused to play in last Sunday’s El Clasico at the Nou Camp.

The 24-year-old, who signed for Los Blancos in 2019, is said to be unhappy at the level of media attention diverted away from him and towards Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham since their arrivals in the Spanish capital.

With Madrid ready to enter a new era after Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as the manager of Brazil, Rodrygo is eager to follow his manager out the door.

While he rejected a move to Manchester City last year, Pep Guardiola’s side are among one of five Premier League teams interested in signing him this summer, according to Diario AS, who claim Madrid would be willing to part with him for around £84 (€100m).

While talks aren’t believed to have begun yet, the Brazilian has previously admitted to taking a liking to the Manchester club.

‘For me, they’re the best team in the world, the one that plays the best football,’ he previously said.

Arsenal have also been linked with Rodrygo and are in desperate need of strengthening their attack after an injury-ravaged season.

They currently have no recognised striker available, with Gabriel Jesus sidelined since January with an ACL injury.

Replacement Kai Havertz hasn’t featured since February because of a hamstring injury sustained during a winter training break in Dubai but still remains the club’s top scorer this season with nine goals.

Meanwhile, Rodrygo has earned high praise from midfielder Mikel Merino, who has been forced to deputise as an emergency striker for much of their campaign.

‘I have a soft spot for Rodrygo because of his playing style,’ he said. ‘He’s technically exquisite. he has every possible register in his game.

‘Not only that, but he’s capable of playing in various areas of the pitch. Inside, outside, he goes into space… He’s a player I really like.’

Rodrygo scored 18 goals and claimed nine assists in the 2023/24 season as Real Madrid won the treble.

But he has failed to follow it up this season, only bagging six times and providing six assists in LaLiga.

He has scored just once in his last 22 matches, last netting against Atletico Madrid in March.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea still all remain interested.

While Mohammed Salah recently extended his contract until 2027, the futures of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa are uncertain.

Meanwhile, United and Chelsea are interested in bringing in attacking reinforcements this summer, but their plans hinge on if they qualify for the Champions League.

Ruben Amorim’s side are also hoping to sign Ipswich forward Liam Delap or Wolves’s Matheus Cunha.
