Conor Benn names his preferred next opponent if he does NOT get a rematch with Chris Eubank Jr

Conor Benn has revealed who he would like to fight next if he doesn’t get an immediate rematch with Chris Eubank Jr.

Benn suffered the first defeat of his professional career in an epic bout with Eubank Jr last month as he lost on points to his bitter rival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of 67,000 fans.

A rematch appears to be the next logical move, but there has been some uncertainty over whether a weight can be agreed that will suit both fighters.

Eubank Jr failed to make the 160lb middleweight limit for their first fight, while Benn also jumped up two divisions having competed for the majority of his career at welterweight.

Benn believes the Eubank Jr rematch must happen next or he will go back down to 147lbs. If he does drop down to welterweight, Benn has named Devin Haney as the fighter he would like to take on next, while also aiming a dig at the US superstar.

‘If I don’t do Eubank next, then that ship has sailed,’ Benn said on the Ariel x Ade Show. ‘It has to be Eubank next.

“If I don’t do Eubank next, that ship sailed. It has to be Eubank next.

If it’s not Eubank then that chapter closed and I drop down to 147. I would prefer Haney out of the lot of them. But then again, I don’t fancy catching a lawsuit, so I’ll probably give that a swerve.”

‘If it’s not Eubank then that chapter closed and I drop down to 147. I would prefer Haney out of the lot of them. But then again, I don’t fancy catching a lawsuit, so I’ll probably give that a swerve.’

Benn was referencing the lawsuit that Haney brought against Ryan Garcia last year after Garcia failed a drugs test following their grudge match in April 2024.

Haney was seeking damages for battery, fraud and breach of contract after losing to Garcia, before the fight was later ruled a no contest in light of Garcia’s positive test.

Haney and Garcia settled their lawsuit in January and had been targeting a rematch for later this year.

They appeared on the same card last Friday night in Times Square, with Benn watching on from ringside.

However, the night did not go to plan for Garcia or Haney.

Garcia suffered a shock points defeat by Rolly Romero after being knocked down in the second round, while Haney outpointed Jose Ramirez but failed to impress in a lacklustre fight.

Benn saw Haney up close and now fancies his chances against the two-weight world champion.

Haney is unbeaten in 33 professional fights, and is a former undisputed lightweight champion, while he also won a belt at light-welterweight.

He now looks to be moving towards welterweight after fighting Ramirez at a catchweight of 144lbs, and Benn has made it clear he would be more than happy to welcome Haney to the division.
