The UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival will return to Salford in 2025, bringing the excitement of dragon boat racing back to Salford Quays on Sunday 25 May. Organised by the Xinhua Chinese Association (XCA), the festival has been a key event in Salford’s cultural calendar since its inception in 2012, celebrating the spirit of community, sport, and cultural exchange.
To mark the return of the festival, members of the XCA Executive Committee were joined at Salford Quays by Consul General Tang Rui from the Chinese Consulate General in Manchester, and Salford’s Deputy City Mayor, Councillor Jack Youd. The event also marked the opening of team entries for the 2025 festival.
They were joined by title sponsor Bank of China (UK) Limited and other key sponsors including Jiangsu Yanghe Distillery, Hainan Airlines, Juneyao Air, Phoenix RC Automotive, China Taiping Insurance (UK) Co. Ltd, and Suman Group.
Deputy City Mayor Councillor Jack Youd said: “The UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a key event for Salford, bringing together people from all backgrounds for a day of competition and celebration. We are thrilled to welcome the festival back to Salford Quays and encourage teams to register and participate in what promises to be another exciting year.”
The festival offers a unique opportunity for teams of all skill levels to compete, with no prior experience required. Teams from businesses, community groups, and social organisations are encouraged to enter, with the aim of fostering teamwork and community spirit.
