Kai Trump’s first taste of elite tournament golf has been far from sweet.
The golf prodigy, and granddaughter of President Donald Trump is among the next generation of star golfers competing at Sage Valley in South Carolina.
But the 17-year-old’s famous name is nowhere to be found atop the leaderboard. Instead, after just two rounds, it has slumped 29 shots from the top, right to the bottom.
After dropping a remarkable 17 shots across 13 holes in Wednesday’s round one, Kai found herself in need of a miracle.
Thursday’s black and thunderous skies didn’t present a good omen. But if the president’s granddaughter is superstitious, she didn’t show it. Kai bounced back from the horror show of Wednesday’s opening round with an opening birdie on the 10th.
As she strutted off the green, she presented a picture of grit and determination. But that’s when the rain started pelting down. And so did the bogeys.

The real trouble came at the 17th. There, Kai found the green side pond with her approach shot letting her with a penalty and another double bogey sandwiched either side by two more dropped shots.
The flurry of blemishes saw the teenager reach the turn at five-over. And it didn’t improve from there. Despite two early birdies in her second nine, a double-bogey-double finish saw her finish seven-over for the day and a staggering 24-over for the tournament.
Yet throughout her toil and turmoil across the undulating fairways of Sage Valley, Kai kept remarkable composure.
At just 17 years of age, Kai maintained poise, decorum and sportsmanship where most teenagers would’ve crumbled into tears and tantrums.
Hole after hole, she continued to plummet down further and further away from the leaders, but Kai laughed off her errors. She chatted with her playing partner Sofia Cherif Essakali as they took shelter under umbrellas between shots.
She was even spotted telling the group’s marker, ‘It is what it is, who cares?,’ after yet another missed putt.
Yet, her bravado didn’t shield the harsh reality. Halfway through the tournament, she’s left world away from leader Pimpisa Rubrong of Thailand.
And as she left the final green to trek up to the clubhouse on the hill, she couldn’t even seek a shoulder to cry on.
Just last week exclusively revealed that Kai’s mom Vanessa has been secretly dating Charlie Woods’ dad Tiger since Thanksgiving.

Charlie, who is also competing in the junior competition, has enjoyed little success too.
Yet neither of their parents were there to console them. In fact, the two halves of golf’s new power couple have been nowhere to be seen all week. Neither have Don Jr. or Tiger’s ex-wife Elin.
Nor was Kai’s fan club of nine-year-old boys who had traipsed after the youngster Wednesday – much to the annoyance of the Secret Service agents tailing her every shot.
The posse of teenage girls sporting MAGA headbands and Lulu Lemon co-ord sets were also absent from the fairways they had spent the previous day giggling and primping from.
The miserable weather had scared everyone away, leaving Kai to suffer in her misery alone.
