Man United Treble winner Andy Cole has weighed in on Chido Obi’s cameo in the side’s FA Cup defeat by Fulham on Sunday evening.
The 17-year-old was substituted on in the 68th minute and replaced Rasmus Hojlund, just moments before Bruno Fernandes equalised with a spectacular left-foot strike.
In the end, Obi was unable to prevent the Red Devils crashing out of the competition after a 1-1 draw in normal time saw Fulham prevail in a penalty shootout.
Despite this, Obi earned glowing reviews from fans on social media who were impressed by the energy of the academy star.
Now, former Red Devil Cole has given his verdict on the forward’s display.
Speaking on the Rio Presents podcast, Cole said: ‘When you’re raw and you’re 17, you have no fear. I looked at him yesterday… He’s definitely got a chance.

Man United legend Andy Cole weighed in the 17-year-old’s display during a podcast show
‘My nephew worked with him and my nephew said: ‘Yeah man, he’s got a chance’.
Ferdinand then chimed in and said: ‘He’s still rough around the edges and he should be. But what I don’t have any fear about is that he will get chances.
‘Because I watched him play against my two boys and the way he played yesterday was exactly the same. He’s not in the game but the ball falls and he’s there’.
The 17-year-old was recently promoted to the senior squad amid Ruben Amorim’s side’s struggles in front of the opposition goal.
Both Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been criticised throughout the entire season for the lack of goals at Old Trafford.
The former Arsenal academy star also earned praise from United legend Wayne Rooney, who was on punditry duty on the day.
‘What I really like about him is that he’s put himself in some really good positions,’ said Rooney during the BBC Match of the Day on Sunday.
‘Little bit naive with some of his chances but I think it’s really encouraging for Manchester United. They’ve obviously got Zirkzee and Hojlund not scoring.

Despite being quiet in the match, Obi eventually had a number of chances to score on the night

Rio Ferdinand insisted that he has ‘no fears’ over the youngster after his substitute display
‘Now, that might be another option moving forward in the season. I’ve been really impressed with him.’
Obi was handed his debut in the Red Devils’ 1-0 by Tottenham and also featured in the 2-2 away draw against Everton.
The wonderkid joined Man United Academy in October 2024 in a surprise departure from Arsenal.
Obi made a strong impression since his arrival in the Red Devils’ system, scoring seven goals in three matches in the Youth Cup.
