A man who pushed another man down a flight of stairs at a nightclub before going back to socialise with his friends has been jailed.
Niall Peak “deliberately and forcefully” pushed the 57-year-old, who was wearing a surgical boot and using a crutch, down the stairs of the venue in Altrincham, Greater Manchester Police said.
The victim, who remains in hospital following the incident in June, has been left paralysed from the neck down and will require care for the rest of his life.
Peak, 33, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and jailed for 16 years at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday.
The incident happened following an altercation between the victim’s friend and Peak’s friends on 8 June 2024, GMP said.
The victim and Peak had a brief conversation before the victim went to leave the club to join his friend outside.
As he began to descend the stairs, Peak appeared behind him and “deliberately and forcefully” pushed him down the stairs with both of his hands on his back.
Peak was then seen on camera running down the stairs to where the victim had landed before continuing to socialise with his friends “like nothing had happened,” the force continued.
The victim suffered 15 cardiac arrests.
Det Con Walsh said Peak is a “volatile individual” who has shown no remorse for his actions.
“His actions left the victim with catastrophic life-changing injuries and lifelong trauma,” he said.
“I hope this sentence today will provide some small comfort and enable him to move on with his life knowing Peak is behind bars.”
