Hundreds of cannabis plants have been found at a mill, after police suspected there may be criminal activity in the area when chasing a suspect across some nearby land.
A total of 658 plants were discovered in what Greater Manchester Police deemed a “significant find” at a mill on Milltown Street, in Radcliffe, Bury.
There were six vacuum-packed bags ready for distribution, in the “well-planned set-up”, according to police.
Officers had deployed the drone unit for a wider view of the area after chasing a suspect earlier in the month, and returned to the mill with a warrant on Friday after spotting something suspicious.
Insp Gareth Edwards acknowledged the discovery of the cannabis, on this occasion, had “boiled down to some luck”, but he said the force was working to prevent any further offences at the location, in conjunction with the council, Environmental Health, and the fire service.
“We are continuing to conduct enquiries to find those responsible, with a view to closing the mill until it is deemed safe, as the wider impact this had on the environment, in terms of waste, is another serious concern,” he said.
The force said its work to tackle drugs supply “continued at pace”.
“We only know too well the devastating consequences drugs has within communities of Bury and across Greater Manchester, as well as further afield.”
