Jamie Carragher has slammed Marcus Rashford after his shocking interview on Monday.
The £375,000-a-week star announced that he is ready for a ‘new challenge’ away from Man United after two decades at the club, just a day after being left out of his side’s dramatic derby win over Man City.
Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim refused to close the door on Rashford’s career on Wednesday by insisting he wants to keep the winger in the future, but Mail Sport have previously revealed the club would be willing to sanction a sale for a fee in the region of £40m.
Carragher criticised the 27-year-old’s mentality and argued that his comments have left United in a bad spot, as potential suitors are now aware that United have an idle asset at the club, meaning they cannot demand such a high price for his talents.
‘I mean, that leaves the club in a really poor position… in terms of negotiating his exit at some stage,’ the Liverpool legend said.
‘So if he’s really believes that he wants to still be a Manchester United player, and he still wants to have a great career, you don’t come out with a statement like that.

‘You don’t, you keep your mouth shut. You battle and you hope that you got a little chance here.
‘Garnacho’s got his chance. Okay, he’s involved tonight.
‘Rashford, that’s what he should have been hoping for tonight, and then going short, what he can do on the pitch, not putting a statement out about that. It’s time to move on.’
Carragher went on to say that Rashford’s hefty wage demands, combined with his poor form, would not make him an attractive signing, even arguing that his 30-goal season in 2022-23 was not ‘out of this world’.
‘I mean, people keep using his wages as a reason for there not being a market [for Rashford] and I get that,’ he added.
‘And, you know, another thing, people keep talking about 30 goals. Now, 30 goals is a really big figure. It’s not out of this world.’
Jamie Redknapp shared Carragher’s concerns, adding that Rashford’s on-field attitude may discourage other clubs from pursuing him.
‘I think what would be worrying for for a club or an interest, would be his attitude on the pitch,’ he said.
‘Now, we saw it last year at times when there’ll be like times he just wasn’t running and that, that’s my biggest fear for him, somehow he’s got to fall in love with football again.’
