- England managed just 234 in their second innings despite reaching 122-2
- Jacob Bethell top scored with 76 but missed out on a maiden Test century
- Tim Southee victorious in his final Test match for New Zealand
England finished their victorious tour of New Zealand on a sour note as they were heavily beaten by the Black Caps in Tim Southee’s final Test match for the hosts.
Starting the day 18-2, Jacob Bethell and Joe Root put on a century stand for the third wicket to offer hope that England could at least put up a decent fight in their attempt to chase down a near-impossible target of 659 set by the Kiwis.
But Root’s wicket sparked a collapse as the final seven wickets fell for just 112 runs, with captain Ben Stokes not coming out to bat after injuring his hamstring on day three.
