Yankees fans collectively melted down on Sunday night as Juan Soto decided to leave the Bronx and ink a massive 15-year, $765million deal with the Mets.
Soto, who reached the World Series in his lone season with the Yankees last year, will be moving across town after his bombshell free agency decision – which will come with a $75million signing bonus, per multiple reports.
And Yankees faithful took to X to react to the ‘insane’ figures of Soto’s new deal – and bash the short-lived Yankee on his way out of the Bronx.
‘Soto was NEVER a Yankee. He should never be mentioned as Yankee ever again!!!,’ one raged under a post from Tallkin’ Yanks.
‘I hate Soto already,’ another said.
A third added, ‘Dead to me. Traitor. Hope the 800 mil was worth never sniffing a World Series ever again.’
Juan Soto stunned the MLB world on Sunday by agreeing to a record contract with the Mets
A fourth said, ‘He’s rich but won’t win. Legacy gotta matter at a certain point as well as the money. Sad to see.’
According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Yankees nearly matched the Mets’ offer, as they bid $760million over 16 years for the player.
However, he ultimately accepted the Mets’ historic offer, which left fans in disbelief.
‘That is a crazy contract!!! Ticket prices jumping 5x cost next season lol,’ one said.
‘The Yankees won here. 15 YEARS? Can’t wait to hear Mets fans after 5 years and they still have 10 years left on the contract,’ a second added.
‘Another reason why MLB needs a salary cap. The small market teams cannot compete,’ a third opined.
And a fourth claimed, ‘Nobody. I repeat. Nobody is worth this amount of money for hitting a ball. Disgusting.’
