Fresh information has come to light in the social media saga that has surrounded NRL star AJ Brimson over the last 24 hours.
It came after the Gold Coast Titans player had published a screenshot of a digital betting slip to his Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon, showing that the owner of the account, who he has subsequently claimed belonged to his mother, had won a whopping $10,100 on the Melbourne Cup.
Initially, some had thought that the account featured in the screenshot belonged to Brimson with a second bet also being visible on the slip.
While partially redacted, the second bet allegedly shows that a bet had been made on a rugby league match.
NRL players are forbidden to bet on games as part of the NRL’s code of conduct but there is no suggestion that Brimson has done anything wrong.
Fresh new details have emerged in the aftermath of AJ Brimson’s social media saga
The NRL star had appeared to post a picture of a digital betting slip on his Instagram story
The NRL’s Integrity Unit for social media are currently investigating the incident, but according to Brimson’s manager Jim Banaghan, his client has nothing to worry about over the claims.
He claimed that the Integrity Unit seem to be ‘very comfortable’ with the situation at the moment.
Brimson had been enjoying a sunny afternoon with friends at the up-market bar Nineteen at The Star Casino on the Gold Coast when 100/1 Outsider Knight’s Choice surged through the field to win the Melbourne Cup following a dramatic photo finish.
According to The Daily Telegraph, his mother, Vanessa Brimson, had got in contact with her son to inform him that she had won a big bet on the Melbourne Cup.
But there is a unique reason as to why she had picked the horse Knight’s Chance to win.
Her first husband and father of the Titans star, Ian Brimson, sadly passed away in 2011.
Her current partner’s name is Kerry Knight and it is believed his surname is why Brimson’s mother backed the horse, ridden by Robbie Dolan to win Australia’s great race.
In fact, she pocketed a very cool dividend off a $100 bet, with her son subsequently publishing a screen grab of the big payout on his social media.
The player has denied that the bet slip belonged to him but instead said that it was his mum’s

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that a ‘First Try-Scorer’ bet had been pictured and partially redacted from the betting slip and it is understood that Brimson’s mother had placed a bet on him to score a try during a match in the past seven months.
‘It was a little bit of harmless fun that backfired,’ Brimson’s manager, Banaghan said.
‘He was just pretending he won it when it was another family member.
‘The Integrity Unit is having a good look at it and appears to be very comfortable with everything at the moment. It’s going nowhere.
‘Unfortunately for those who want a good story, this isn’t one of them. I can fully understand everyone getting excited but there’s nothing to be excited about.
‘Congratulations to his mum for backing a 100-1 winner – I wish it was me.’
The Titans also told Daily Mail Australia: ‘The Gold Coast Titans have referred a social media post made by AJ Brimson to the NRL’s Integrity Unit.
‘The club can’t comment further on this matter at this time.’
Sportsbet, the NRL’s gambling partner, is also understood to be providing league officials with contacts needed for their investigation.
The NRL has previously sent a warning out to players over the seriousness of potential gambling infractions, with ex-chief operating officer Jim Doyle revealing the sanctions players could face.
‘We’re saying that if you bet on rugby league … you’re taking a significant risk of losing your job or being significantly suspended,’ he said.
Brimson’s agent has subsequently denied that the slip was his and has nothing to worry about

Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona was deregistered by the NRL in 2017 after he had been found to have bet against his own team.
Simona had wagered money against his own team winning and on opposition players scoring against the Tigers.
Brimson has established himself as a key face at the Titans having arrived in 2018.
The fullback has since made 112 appearances, notably scoring five tries in 13 appearances this season.
