The Line Manager Induction Programme is celebrating its one-year anniversary and one of the first civil servants to complete it helped to mark its special day.
Ministry of Justice senior project manager Cathryn Rees opted to do the programme because she wanted to ensure her management approach was in line with the new Civil Service Line Management Standards.
She joined Line Management Capability Programme executive director Carol Bernard, left, to mark the programme’s first-year milestone after it was launched across the Civil Service in November 2023.
Whether you’re new to line management or experienced, the induction is a practical and valuable resource,” said Cathryn.
Great line managers make all the difference to people’s working life so it makes sense for both new and experienced line managers to make sure they get the skills they need to help their team members thrive while also developing their own approach to leadership in the process.
The Line Manager Induction Programme is particularly aimed at new line managers and aims to get them off to the best possible start by building their skills, knowledge and networks.
The programme sets out the expectations for Civil Service managers, highlights the support available to them and helps them apply learning directly back in their workplace, creating the conditions for high performance.
Carol Bernard, said;
I’m so pleased to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Line Manager Induction Programme. Line management is one of the most important elements of any manager’s role, as good line managers help to create great working environments and successful organisations. The Line Manager Induction Programme is underpinned by rigorous academic research and we have involved some of our Excellent Line Managers from across the Civil Service to share their insights. We feel the final programme is both engaging and reflective providing a valuable tool to support line managers. It’s useful for existing, new and aspiring line managers and I’d encourage anyone with an interest in line management to complete the training.
The Line Manager Induction Programme can be completed in 20 minute chunks and participants can log out and return to complete it.
