Today (Thursday 16 April) is primary school National Offer Day when children and their families will find out if they have been allocated a place at one of their preferred schools for September 2026.

In the Shropshire Council area more than 99% of children have been offered a place at their preferred primary school. The number offered their first preference school, and those offered one of their preferred schools, are both up on last year, with just four children not being allocated a preferred school.

In the Shropshire Council area, 2,582 children applied on time for a place at primary school, with 97.4% – 2516 children – offered their first preference school.

All who applied on time have been offered a place, with 99.8% allocated one of their preferences, and 0.2% – 4 children, allocated an alternative preference.

This year’s figures for the Shropshire Council area are:

• Number of on-time applications – 2,582
• Number allocated their 1st preference – 2,516 (97.4%)
• Number allocated their 2nd preference – 53 (2.1%)
• Number allocated their 3rd preference – 9 (0.3%)
• Number allocated their 4th preference – 0 (0.0%)
• Number allocated one of their preferences – 2, 578 (99.8%)
• Number allocated an alternative preference – 4 (0.2%)

Andy Hall, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children and education, said:

“At this stage in the admissions process, we’re delighted that, as in previous years, a high percentage of pupils have been offered their first preference school.- and over 99% per cent of Shropshire parents have been offered a place at one of their four preferred schools.

“The really good news this year is that Shropshire children who received their first preference is 97.4%, and 99.8% received one of their preferred schools. This is an increase from last year, with just four children not being allocated a preferred school.

“We’ve always met a high percentage of first preference requests and have always been ranked amongst the top three West Midlands authorities – something we’re very proud of.”
